“Woman-Centric” homes are designed by women with the needs and desires of women in mind. It has been proven that women directly purchase or have controlling influence in the purchase of 91% of all new homes. Therefore, it just makes sense to design our homes, the products which go into them and the entire building and buying experience from a female perspective.
Catering to both stay-at-home wives and working women, Woman-Centric designs are geared toward creating ease and comfort for the woman of the house. Working women often wonder why their lives are stressful, and part of it is the design of their homes. When a woman comes home tired from work, the last thing she wants to see is a reminder of more work to be done the minute she enters her house; but that is exactly what a woman gets when the home's floor plan has her entering from the garage through the laundry room, with piles of laundry there to remind her that the day's work is not over
All square footage is not created equal. Square footage in our homes is more functional and pleasant for women and their families. Women are concerned with how a house lives. Woman-Centric homes focus on four primary aspects that are important to women when selecting a floor plan: flexible living spaces; entertaining; storage; and de-stressing areas. Because of the livability of Woman-Centric homes, the homes are popular with men too.
Snowden Builders has an exclusive agreement with Design Basics to be the only builder in Kent County authorized to use the Woman-Centric brand and its floor plans. Woman-Centric Home Design is a trademark of the Design Basics firm of Omaha, Nebraska, the largest designer of home plans in the country. Design Basics began focusing their plans around the needs of women in 2003.
Some examples of a woman-centric home are:
- the “drop zone” – a place in the rear entry where you can leave your cell phone, your keys, your coat
- opening the kitchen to the great room so it will be better suited for family gatherings
- adding a walk-in pantry
- increasing the size of the dining room so that it can be used as either a dining room or closed off as a study
- enlarging the master bath for a larger walk-in shower
- repositioning the laundry room closer to the bedrooms
- substantial garage size (e.g., 24 x 24)
- creative storage
- more natural light
- laundry rooms with hanging space
- flex areas
